A Gargoyle is defined as a spout projecting from
a roof gutter. The name is derived from the French "gargouille" and the Latin "gurgulio",
both meaning throat. They are carvings on the outside of buildings designed to
direct water from the roof away from the base of the walls. Some Gargoyles are
decorated often very imaginatively and/or grotesque Gargoyles can be seen
adorning the architecture of most cities and towns in the UK. Our designs
include the famous Oxford Gargoyles from the college buildings of Oxford.

The seven virtues - looking down on the New
College cloisters are these unique heads representing seven virtues. They are
situated on the south side of the bell tower. Patience (chain), Generosity
(Biscuit), Charity (flat palms), Prayerfulness (praying), Innocent Love (baby),
Enthusiastic Joy (grinning), Justice (hat)
